The 2007 Caboolture Road Runners 8k handicap kicked off with a very successful opening event at Mt Mee on Sunday morning. A big rollup of adults and kids toed the line in Settlement Road for an undulating start on tar then dirt roads until a couple of ripper climbs on a local farm, complete with stampeding cattle and residual droppings. In fact, dodging steaming piles of cow pats made the run all the more interesting - and desperate. Certain vertically challenged runners - including the writer - won't be cleaning their shoes in the hope that a little fertiliser might add a little height? We haven't seen so much BS since they televised parliamentary proceedings.
The course was a Macca special, so tough no-one beat their handicap or even came close but the views along the way, as always up here, were spectacular. As the course was measured at 8.7ks on the GPS the following results are reworked to an equivalent 8k time. This elevated Tammy significantly in the results and changed a few placings, including a few reversals. Even on a very hard course and after a screamer the previous day over another difficult 24k hilly course, there was no stopping Bruce who pulled Macca back after a typical fast start. There were a couple of other close tussles and an especially gutsy effort from the kids who joined in as well, especially the locals.
