Race 3 Caboolture Road Runners 8klm Handicap Series

Warm sunny conditions greeted runners at Centenary Lakes at Caboolture for Race 3 in the 8klm series. Twelve runners took the start, including new member Barbara who described herself as a "gentle jogger". Barbara's husband generously offered to handle the timing for us and Barbara brought along a delicious homemade cake that disappeared in no time, despite the fact that it was made from healthy ingredients. Welcome to you both.

Glen meticulously measured the couse with the Trumeter wheel through the previous week - and then Caboolture Shire Council decided to rip up the last few metres of the track just as soon as Glen finished. This necessitated a last minute redirection of the course and some less accurate remeasurement on the deadly treadly - Glen's not confident it was the full 8000 but it sure felt like it, maybe because Glen also made sure there were some testing little hills in the course.

Interesting that nearly all runners beat their Bribie Island time and a few comments were made that the Bribie course might have been long. I've been running on the Bribie course over six years now, and I know it seems a little longer every time, but I figured that was old age. Oh well.

Iain McKee took off at the gun like a rabbit with the hounds close behind and lead all the way, finishing well in 29m 44s - not bad after 20 klms on Saturday at Mt Mee. Here is the table of results, along with the times from the earlier races for comparison.

The course was very well planned and set out by Glen. Every kilometre was marked and chalk arrows gave plenty of warning of course deviations. Even the bit that said "Turn Righ" was clear if you knew Glen had run out of chalk before he could add the final "t".

Those highly coveted Puma socks from Frontrunners on Bribie went to Col Colthorpe this month, with a Rattler water bottle going to Morgan Hayward.

Here is the overall point score after Race 3.
