Byron Lighthouse Run 31/10/10

Byron Lighthouse Run 31/10/10

What an awesome way to spend a weekend- 3 mums (Audrey, Le-Anne & Judith) "running" away to Byron for the weekend to take part in the Byron Lighthouse run. This has got to be one of the most beautiful places to run. It certainly made those (or was it just one big one?) hills less painful! That and the beach, fresh air, changes of track and friendly company along the way. Quite a few Brisbanites took part in this fun event. Even caught up with our lovely Caroline!

The race begins on Byron Bay's Main Beach right next to the surf club and running straight up the road and around the lighthouse. The run then takes you 2 kilometre turn-around along Tallows Beach and back before finishing back at the surf club.

There was the option of an 8km walk or the 10km run. The extra 2km was worth it as it meant you got to run on the beach - priceless!

After coming to terms with "daylight saving" time difference we decided it was a sensible idea to go down the night before and camp (like we needed an excuse to get away longer???). Walking from out camp ground into town (2ish km) to sample the delights of Byron's nightlife, we decided on sampling the stone oven pizzas, the wine, (cocktail, wine, hmmmmm....) night markets etc we finally walked back to camp and had a "nightcap" before settling in for the night (or was that technically morning?). Well rested (!) we got up, "bugged" out and met Caroline at the registration tent bright and early. After soaking up the mood of the run, we took off with enthusiasm to enjoy what was ahead of us.

After relaxing at the surf club to hear the results we did some "cooling down" with some retail therapy as our drug of choice. Gotta love those prices! A quiet drive home after lunch, sharing the driving back to Brissie, we met up with our families, who were happy to see us. Gotta do it again girls!

I would totally recommend this run to everyone looking for a truly beautiful run.

This run was for a very good cause. All the proceeds went to the NSW Cancer council. This was the event's 4th anniversary. It was a well organised event and I hope there are many more to come.

Thanks Le-Anne for a great report and pics.  Any news or reports always welcome by email to Parso.
