8k Handicap Results – Iain’s Place 19 March 2006

Here are the results from the various events at the weekend, the 8k handicap and the "Tri"

A field of sixteen members turned up at Iain's place for two laps of an honest 4k loop in warm but occasionally overcast conditions. Good to see Col dusting off the cobwebs as he counts down to his next Brisbane Marathon, number 14 or 15 or something as one of a handful of runners to have completed every one of these events. Col was at Iain's on the previous morning too, banking some ks on the hills in Settlement Road. We wish him well in April.
Watch out for another stellar performance from the Bruce Cook at Brisbane too. Bruce ripped into the hills on Saturday over a difficult half marathon course at Mt Mee - see "Tri" story below.
Iain put out some of the signs from the Bribie run along the course, warning of runners ahead, Heartbreak Hill and Sewerside Alley. Whichever way you run from Iain's there are plenty of heartbreaks for sure. The course included an excellent cross country section complete with steeplechase water hazards and good old fashioned mud. Francis and Col helped mark the course. Thanks all for your help.
Here are the results. A great effort by local Dave Bradley, who walked in company with Phillipa whose work commitments have kept her from the track but encouragingly her fitness is still there. Cookie stalked Macca throughout and despite back twinges all week, finally pounced on Iain up the last gut wrenching hill to finish just ahead. Macca had the last laugh though with a third place in the handicap series. Top efforts from those who also did 6' Track last weekend, especially Genevieve who chased Francis right to the line. Another runner recovering really well after a lot of injuries and now slowly getting back to form is Russell James who finished a strong second place.

Please Note. There has been a change to the program of runs so that Race 2 is to be held in conjunction with the Sonomas Fun Run 90 Flinders Pde Sandgate on 9 April, not at Steve's place. The run from Steve's will now be on 25 June replacing the Environmental park run.
Thanks everyone for coming along and I'm sure we all look forward to another gripping series.
Try saying that, or "tri" saying that, with your teeth out!
Three runners completed all three legs of the inaugural Mt Mee "Tri" over 18 and 19 March.
The event commenced on Saturday with 21.1k half along Settlement Road and the big loop from Iain's along the main drag. The 8k handicap race on Sunday added the second event, while the last was a single lap 13.1 of the Somerset Trail loop at the Gantry. Times for each leg and the overall marathon distance were:
Bruce Cook:                  1:41:51             32:20                1:05:00             3:19:11
Iain McKee:                   1:44:41             32:30                1:10:41             3:27:52
Mark Parsonson:           1:46:33             35:30                1:10:41             3:32:44
We were joined at Somerset by Greg Waite who ran here in the last CRR event on this course some years back. Greg is building up his training after some injuries and we hope he can join us on future outings - possibly as a team member for the D2W relay.
At Somerset toward the finish Iain had been building the pace because he thought Parso was "right on me tail". Inspired by the finish of the womens marathon Parso tried a late surge to head off Iain and even used his elbows to force a right of way around Macca on the trail. Not clever, as Macca showed his pedigree and put the foot down to easily regain the lead after a couple of flat out downhill sprints. All of this to the amusement or bemusement of Greg W, who may not even want to join us on future runs! And Bruce decided he preferred an out and back course rather than the loop and ran an extra couple of ks just for fun.
Pre-race predictions about finish times saw Macca closest with 3:45 after revising his estimate from 3:35, whilst Parso clearly had no idea on 4 hours. Bruce was late so he didn't get to make a guess so this makes Iain the inaugural "Tri" winner. For his effort he receives the winners six pack of the beer of his choice. Enjoy!
This will be an annual event so keep it in mind for next year.
