Wetland Warriors

An intrepid bunch of runners made their way up to wind & waves of Mooloolaba beach to run in this year's Mooloolaba Mile. With conditions on the radar enough to keep all the ships in harbour, it was not enough to stop the CRR crew from putting on the shoes and getting ready to race.

First off it was Matt J in a 60m sprint. But it was not any normal sprint, but one with army netting to crawl through, a maze to clear, and a sand trench to crawl through. Later in the open men's sprint there was the chance to see how many people can wedge themselves in a trench built for only one at a time. Next up it was Gundars in the 3km, a race up & back on the beach in CRR's favourite distance.

It was time to get serious with the main event, the Mooloolaba Mile. First it was all the age groups together, with Caroline & Russell both competing. A short course of 3 laps, so no chance to get into a good rhythm. Caroline was quickly chasing the next woman in front of her, but didn't realize that she was actually chasing the tail of the field. Across the line to not only win her age category, but first woman across the line. Russell had a good race, to take out the over 50's.

Then everyone lined up on the sideline to watch the elite field battle it out for the prize money. Ten of the quickest men & women battling out in the sand to claim the prize money.

On the way to somewhere dry to hold the presentations, we went past a very dry & cheerful looking Team G celebrating a birthday unaware of the shivering road runners racing across the other side of the road. It was good to catch up again with Arthur, who has been doing a number of big races that have fitted into his travels.

In amongst the awards & random prizes their was one young boy very surprised when the race winner's number was called out, and he handed him his number for him to win instead.

Congratulations to Team Ascent for a terrific event organized in challenging conditions.
