As dawn arrived on the Glasshouse Mountains the bulk of the intrepid Caboolture Road Runners were busy preparing for their duties at each allotted checkpoint. Anja and myself headed off to checkpoint 3a, and using my extensive local knowledge of the area I told Anja of a handy back road that would save us heaps of time! Unfortunately thousands of trail bikes and 4wds had taken their toll and turned the road into a lunar landscape, hence slowed us down quite a bit.
With Anja navigating we finally arrived at an intersection where I was told to turn right but insisted we had to go left - another mistake on my part! Well we finally got there with a whole minute to spare so we decided to have a fancy coffee, mocha choca latte or something courtesy of Anja, tasted great anyway, a great start to the day.
On finishing our duties we decamped the area and proceeded to the start of our 24k run with about 90 other competitors. At about the 2k mark Anja made a break and didn’t look back flying up hills like a startled gazelle, proving that her recent success at Mt Beerburrum was no fluke but the result of lots of hard training and in the process cementing her spot as the club’s top female endurance runner.
Meanwhile I tried to catch up but it wasn’t to be. Along the way I came across Judith, Jenn and Le-Anne who I think were all on their maiden 24’s at Glasshouse. Well done girl’s great to see you out there on the track getting stuck in. I hope you all catch the bug and continue on your journey with your fellow CRR buddies.
What a treat to be greeted at every checkpoint by our club members. Made us all feel a little bit special. Thanks gang for doing a great job.
